Volunteering Opportunities

As a small, local voluntary organisation we rely heavily on volunteers in all aspects of the organisation – from service delivery to the Board of Trustees. All volunteers involved in service delivery are required to attend our Volunteer’s Training Course before starting work with us and Board members are expected to attend the course as soon as they can.
Women from under represented groups are encouraged to apply.

Here are a few volunteer roles we are looking to fill. Please understand that all positions will be vetted with appropriate references taken up. An enhanced DBS check is also required.

Volunteer roles for 23/24 are currently under review.

For more information on any of these roles please email Admin

Please contact us if you are interested in volunteering in any aspect of our organisation.

Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees are responsible for strategic management of the Refuge organisation. A full Board meeting is held every six weeks with sub-group meetings held in between. The Board is made up of local women who volunteer their time and expertise in order to shape the destiny of the Refuge Organisation, safeguard its interests and ensure its financial stability.

We are in particular need of women with either a background in finance, skills in fundraising, risk management or employment law.

Service Delivery
Volunteers work alongside paid staff in all aspects of service delivery e.g.:

  • working with the children
  • assisting at the Outreach drop-in
  • working in the office
  • working in the house or the garden
  • planning and delivering cooking lessons

After attending the training course, new volunteers are not expected to offer more than two hours a week for the first three months of working with us.

Appointment is conditional on having an Enhanced Disclosure Certificate from the Disclosure and Barring Service that is acceptable to the Refuge. We will help you to provide this if you don’t have one.

We will make reasonable adjustments to ensure equality of opportunity for women with disabilities.

If you’d like to know more about becoming a Trustee, volunteering with us or you’d like to have details of the next training course when they’re available, please contact us
